Initial Assessment
During your first visit, the osteopath will spend time exploring your
problem by asking questions about the onset, progression
and nature and pattern of your symptoms. In addition,
notes will be taken on your medical history, lifestyle,
occupation and diet.
Following the case history, the osteopath will examine the way your body moves.
You will be asked to dress down to your underclothes
and perform active movements (such as spinal or shoulder movements) that might
be relevant to the assessment. The osteopath will then
carefully evaluate your mobility and range of movement
by gently palpating the relevant joints and
associated muscles as movement is passively introduced.
Based on the case history and examination findings,
a diagnosis will be formulated and a treatment plan
developed. These will be discussed with you and, if
you are agreeable and time permits, treatment will
begin on your first visit. If osteopathic treatment is
not appropriate, you will be referred to your doctor for further consultation.
